Civil Rights Photography

Charles Moore, Birmingham, Alabama, 1963, https://www.npr.org/sections/pictureshow/2010/03/charles_moore.html/

The description on this image reads, “Demonstrators huddled in a doorway seek shelter from the hoses. The water was propelled at a force of 100 pounds per square inch.” This photograph is effective in the sense that it innately captures the severity of the civil rights movement. With the hoses applied at such pressure, it is evident that at the time there was much opposition towards those who wanted to stand up for what they believed in.
