Doing Democracy

March on Washington, Washington D.C, Leonard Freed, 1963, https://luag.lehigh.edu/exhibitions/doing-democracy-photography-george-stephanopoulos-collection.

Protesting is a right given to the people of America because of democracy. The rights passed by our democracy allowed for the people in this image to gather and express their opinions and struggles in a public manner. The power of the people is very greatly expressed here. There is a strong sense of unity portrayed in this image.

While on the other hand this image captures the inequalities that were discovered within democracy. People of color were restricted to certain rights and some rights were even withheld. This image captures the struggle for equality and the steps toward furthering democracy for everyone.
