This photograph was taken by Charles Moore. As a photographer of the Civil Rights Movement, he shared that he used his camera, not his fists, to fight. I chose this photo as one that is very effective in portraying the civil rights movement because of the seemingly unique emotion which is expresses. Many photos from the Civil Rights Movement show pain and struggle, but in this photograph, the African Americans seems to be pointing and smiling at the officer. I think that this is unique in its subject and therefore very effective. I also like the point of the view that the photographer took, from behind the scene looking in. I allows the viewer to feel as if they are standing there watching the movement. Lastly I like the black and white contrast between the foreground and the background. It brings emphasis to the subjects and furthers the strength of the image.
