This photo was captured in 1946 by Harry Callahan and is entitled “Untitled”. This landscape photo focuses on the Chicago Shoreline and three stones that are shown in the frame. What I find extremely interesting is the simplicity of this photo. Instead of choosing to capture a busy beach with a lot of noise, Harry focused on just a small portion of a much bigger picture. The composition of this image is compelling. It draws the viewers eye to the only objects that stand out: the rocks. The lighting seems pretty evenly distributed amongst the entirety of the frame. However, some shadowing can be seen around the rocks. Being darker in general, the rocks stand out against the lighter tones of the sand. Overall, Harry did a good job at capturing complexity and detail, despite capturing such a simple photograph.
