Cindy Sherman

This image is entitled “Untitled #96” and was captured by Cindy Sherman. Sherman often captured photos of herself. This image is an example of this. The way that all of the colors come together makes this photo very eye catching. However, I would argue that the image is a bit busy in terms of different textures. The plaid pattern of the skirt and the tile pattern on the floor stand out against each other and make it somewhat difficult to find a good focal point that immediately draws the viewers eyes. In a way though, this technique actually works because despite the business of the textures, the fact that the colors go so well together make for a very interesting photograph. The angle of the camera places Cindy as the main focus of the photo and the lighting and shadowing accentuates this even more. Overall, the main theme of this photo follows Cindy’s other works and the ability to capture the viewer’s eye makes this work of art such an effective and unique one.
