Jeff Wall Photography

Jeff Wall, A Sudden Gust of Wind (After Hokusai), 1993, https://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/25/magazine/25Wall.t.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

In this composition there is chaos. With just a gust of wind, paper is flying everywhere and the people in the composition are running frantically. In the background of the photograph, there appears to be a small city skyline. Jeff Wall is interesting in the sense that his philosophy is “I begin by not photographing”. This means Wall had seen a scene similar to the one above but decided to not photograph it. The composition above is a recreation of what he had seen, it is staged.
