The following photograph was taken by Todd Webb in Dingle, Ireland (1979).
This photograph displays a very intriguing composition that shows an exceptional representation of what street photography is about. The image also poses a very interesting story by placing the old man hunched over with a cane in the middle. Buy putting this image in black and white, the photographer made it so that color would not distract from theoretical and horizontal shapes created by the street buildings. Each of the doors, windows, and shadows on the street wall are all relatively vertical. However, the verticality of this image is broken by the diagonal line created but hemayscane, as well as the horizontally hunched back of the man. This adds a lot of character to the photograph. In addition, the image is balanced well by the contrast created from the choice to put it into black and white. We see a lot of mid grey tones however there are also a balanced amount of lights to darks throughout the image. The shape of the man being the darkest figure in the image helps to emphasize him even amongst the large face of the building.
