LUAG, Taking it to the Streets

Man in Chair Holding a Fake Female Head, Ken Heyman, New York, https://luag.lehigh.edu/exhibitions/taking-it-streets-street-photography-luag-collection.

I chose this image because I love the way the piece was photographed and the strangeness of the photo’s contents. First the piece is shot on an angle, as if Heyman laid down on the ground, turned his camera upwards and to the left, and snapped the picture from there. The image looks up at an older man, sitting in an outdoor chair, staring off into the distance while holding a mannequin head on his lap. The use of long depth of field helps to place the scene. There are objects laid out on the ground behind the man. There are people in the background standing and waving. We can still see the tall buildings of New York and that hustle and bustle of the city, but overall the viewer’s eyes are drawn to this peculiar man holding this even stranger fake head.
