As soon as I saw this picture in the Lehigh University Art Gallery, I knew this was the picture I wanted to focus on. A big social issue that is important to me in the modern world, is sexism. The idea that women are less than men has been a struggle since the beginning of time. While our country definitely has made progress, there is still a lot more that needs to be seen. In this picture, 3 white men walk past mannequins of white, naked women. You can tell that as they walk buy, the guys are looking at these women in a sexual way. This picture stood out to me because it shows that anything can be sexualized. Whether it is an actual person, or just a piece of plastic, people are going to sexualize it. The way that these men are looking at a mannequin’s breasts or behind, goes to show how much is wrong with sexism in our country. The fact that this is taken in the middle of a public street, proves the point even more that men are not even subtle with their sexualization of women.
