Jasmine, Labor Day

9/7 Blog

This is an image from Borgen magazine. It showed that these kids from Abu Dhabi working at the age they are not suppose to. As it was mentioned in the same passage of this image, “the International Labor Organization (ILO) defines child labor as any ‘work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development.'”

The reason that this image is effective in depicting child labor in present days, is that, as you can see, the children’s faces and not happy. Kids at their age should be having smily faces, eating candy, and having fun with friends. But they are have baskets and tools to collect rocks for construction. And since the photo is shoot under portrait mode, these kids are extracted from the background which you can see more details.
