A topic that I feel like is important to address when thinking about the idea of “Labor” is child labor. For years, children have been forced to work due to cheap labor costs and the ability to have employment for little to no pay. I chose these shots from the 1900’s because I feel like they show the history of child labor in the USA and help to better understand how things have evolved and shifted over the last century. Overall, the idea of child labor is a powerful and extremely controversial topic which one could argue would make it harder to capture the magnitude of its importance in just a photograph. However, through the different techniques used (shadowing, DOF, tone, color) the photographs are able to portray the power and meaning behind capturing “child labor” in a still photo.
