Eva, Labor Day

Child Labor/Poverty

Similar to both, Roberto Romano and Lewis Hine, Meridith Kohut uses her platform as a photo journalist to spread awareness around a topic that she has become passionate about. The following link leads to an article in the New York Times that discusses the impact that Meridith Kohut has had on the Venezuelan socialist revolution. The images displayed are all ones shot by Kohut herself. Each image, though very unique, does an exemplar job of showing the deep-rooted issues that Venezuelan people are going through. Kahut has the ability to raise awareness about this topic through her stunning photography. In the picture I labelled “Malnutrition” a man sits on a single bed with barred up window. The way the light shines in, you are only able to see the main focal points (the man). We can clearly see how malnourished and the man is by the way the light accentuates his physical features. The photo captures his emotions well, the photo is not meant to be happy. It is made to force the viewer to feel the situation that people in Venezuela are going through right now.
