“The Artist’s Daughter, Hermine, and her Children at Tea” by Gertrude Kasebier is a picture of a mother( Hermine) sitting outside with her child. The mother is propped on a rocking chair with a small table decorated with a tea set in front of her. Her focus is not on her children but within something in her hand, most likely a teacup. On the other hand, her child are more occupied with a a small kitten drinking out of a saucer, one of her children sitting down in front of the animal while watching it. The other child, standing behind their sibling, is also watching the kitten with a tree branch in their hand.
The reason I chose this picture is because of the unique layers, in the foreground you have the children slight blurred out while the background is more focused on the mother.
Good descriptions and observation of Kasebier’s use of sharper focus on the mother, but softer focus throughout the rest of the image.
