I found this portrait of Eduard Kasabier and his grandson extremely compelling. First off, the portrait had a personal connection to the artist and this is known because of the shared last name between the grandfather and Gertrude Kasebier. I believe that makes it easier for the artist to understand how to capture the compassion between the grandfather and grandson in this portrait. The grandfather and grandson’s eyes are caught in a gaze of love and affection for one another. Grandson, Charles F. O’Malley sits on Eduard’s lap at ease. Both are wearing clothing that looks very formal and fitting. I believe the family is probably rooted deep in a family tree and they must take family importantly.

You could also describe the relatively soft focus of many of her photographs and the solid background in this one. Good observation of the eyes.
I like the connection between their formal attire and deep-rooted familial connections
