Film Photograph

Three Dancers, Mills College, 1929, Imogen Cunningham, https://www.artsy.net/artwork/imogen-cunningham-three-dancers-mills-college-1929.

This is a beautifully captured image of three dancers, leaping in perfect unison. Their faces are all different as well as some of their gestures, but the exact moment each dancer was hovering feet over the ground was caught exactly. I was drawn to this photograph for this exact reason. With film photography the artist had less chances to capture something of this nature. The photo had to be taken at just the perfect moment, if it wasn’t the film would be a waste. In digital photography we have the leisure of capturing hundreds of photos to achieve the one perfect image without fear of running out of film. Cunningham’s ability to utilize the film and capture a perfect snap of the smallest moment in truly stunning and I was deeply impressed.
