Siskind’s photograph “Remembering Joseph Cornell & Merida” is a black and white abstract photograph that displays what seems to be an old picture frame falling a part. Within in the picture are three religious statues with what looks like to be the moon in the background. The picture is slightly bent at the top left, sliding out of the frame and leaving viewers see the black abyss behind it. As a whole, everything is rustic and dirtied up, this creating a more depressing tone for the picture.

He is referencing Joseph Cornell’s boxes and did many of these. It might be interesting to see the series then look at Cornell’s series of boxes.
